Kelley Shannon

Kelley Shannon is executive director of the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas, where she promotes open government and the First Amendment. She is a veteran Texas journalist who has covered politics, state government and regional stories for more than two decades. Shannon covered the Texas Legislature for The Dallas Morning News and spent a distinguished career with the Associated Press in San Antonio, Dallas and Austin, reporting major stories including the Branch Davidian standoff, George W. Bush’s presidential elections and the San Antonio Spurs pro basketball team. Shannon was the Austin supervisory correspondent for the AP from 2000-2010, covering Gov. Rick Perry and five legislative Sessions.  Shannon then launched a niche news company, and freelanced stories for use by newspapers and television websites across the state. She also conducted two Texas-based open government investigations as a freelance reporter for the Center for Public Integrity.
