His direct but respectful style brought focus and light to different areas of the community his publication covered, even to the point of chastising citizens (and many readers I’m sure) for not taking their civic duties seriously enough in matters such as the municipal budget. This apathy has led to many bad government decisions throughout the nation. His writings on government transparency and the importance of the arts, for example, all point to an author who has passion for a civic life that is the cornerstone of a democratic, free and dynamic society.
