“The Murders at the Lake” was the result of a year-long investigation into the 1982 murders of three Waco teenagers. The story itself is told through the points of view of five main characters, done in five parts. The final story ran at 25,000 words, but Texas Monthly began serializing it online with Part 1 on March 19, 2014; we then put up Part 2 two days later, and so on, until the whole story was online. The publication date for the paper copy of the magazine was April 1, 2014.
