“The Endless After-War”

San Antonio Express-News
July 31, 2016

Much of the legacy of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars is unseen in America. In this story published July 31, San Antonio Express-News Projects Reporter Martin Kuz examined how suicide continues to shadow veterans of the two wars and their families. The narrative intercuts the anguish of a widow of an Iraq War veteran who took his life with the stories of former service members who attempted suicide and have worked to find renewed purpose in life. Kuz at once captured the depth of loss that families experience when suicide claims a veteran and showed that those who climb out of the abyss can regain their sense of hope.
