To keep your kids safe on the road, it’s against the law for most school buses to go above 50 miles an hour on any highways. The only exception – they can hit 55 miles an hour on interstates. But KXAN discovered speeding buses at districts across Central Texas. The fastest – more than 80 miles an hour. Some of those buses even had kids on board.

KXAN also uncovered many districts have the technology on board buses to monitor those speeding drivers but most don’t. Because of our investigation, the largest district – the Austin Independent School District – has started doing just that – and within the first month caught more than 100 speeding bus drivers. Now other districts are taking a hard look at their own policies.
